I’m excited to share that I’ll be serving as the host and moderator of the first-ever OUR TOWN Art After Work event on November 2 from 6:30-8:30PM at The Community House in Birmingham! The event is part of The Community House’s OUR TOWN Art Show and Sale, one of the major fundraisers for this wonderful nonprofit community center at the heart of Birmingham.
The event will begin with light hors d’oeuvres and drinks while you’ll have a chance to roam the art show, followed by a panel discussion on the proper way to curate, arrange, and hang art. The evening’s panelists, some of the Detroit area’s foremost art authorities, will share their expertise and offer their tips in an intimate, casual discussion.
Among the talented group who will be speaking at the event:
- Treena Flannery Ericson from The Scarab Club, Detroit. Treena is the gallery director at The Scarab Club in Detroit, one of the city’s oldest and most distinguished art organizations. She will speak to
the proper care and display of artwork, as well as the importance of using archival materials when collecting art. - Gerard Marti of the Robert Kidd Gallery, Birmingham. Gerard Marti has a long history with art in many forms. He was born in Marseille, France and schooled at École des Beaux Arts in Paris, and spent time working as a musician, songwriter, sound engineer, record producer, and video director for EMI Records. In the early 1990s, he merged his love of art and pop culture through a gallery venture that specialized in artworks by celebrities and musicians. Since that time, Gerard has been involved in the gallery business in Maui and Los Angeles. In 2015, Gerard moved to Birmingham, Michigan to devote his time to his most recent endeavors at the Robert Kidd Gallery. He will be discussing the
- Bonnie Mansour & Shelby Alex, Art Leaders Gallery, West Bloomfield. Bonnie Mansour is the founder, director, and fine art curator of the Art Leaders Gallery, which has been providing Oakland County and the Metro Detroit Area with unique fine art and custom picture framing since 1992. Shelby Alex is an art consultant in the gallery, and taps her background in interior design to help clients find the right balance of work for their space. The pair will discuss how to mix different styles of art together for a unique but harmonious look.
- Bradlee Gordon, ART + FRAME. Bradlee Gordon is the owner of ART + FRAME, a custom framing store in Bloomfield Hills. He has a degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University, and spend time as a graphic designer before starting his career in framing. Bradlee will talk about choosing a frame for your art that complements and enhances the piece.
I’d love for you to join me for this fun, exciting and informative evening that supports such an important piece of our community!
