Winged Beauties Enchant On My Favorite Wallpapers

Victoria Hagans

The harbingers of spring come in the way of migrating birds that come and go as dictated by the seasons. I’m hearing so many different bird calls outdoors these days, especially in the early morning. Isn’t it delightful to hear their chirps returning? Nature’s music, to be sure. Their sounds let us know that we are finally emerging from a Midwest winter, thankfully!

Speaking of these fine-feathered friends, I’ve always been a fan of a bird motif in interior design, whether on pillows, wallpaper or fine art. I’m remembering a sweet little article in our region’s Detroit Home magazine. Birds were found even on a tea infuser.

A truly favorite way to bring birds into your interiors is through wallpaper. These days, one of my all-time favorite wallpapers can be found in Victoria Hagan’s Connecticut home. Spotted in Architectural Digest, the Gracie wallpaper shown here ” transforms this powder room into a garden.”

Last spring I helped an elderly woman decorate her new apartment. Her favorite color was blue and she loved birds, but was living in a second-floor apartment, so didn’t have access to bird feeders and bird houses outdoors. We chose a beautiful wallpaper by Thibaut, called Robin, from the Residence Collection, for her large bathroom. Bathroom accessories, from shower curtain to floor mats, are in creams and ivories, providing chic style and traditional elegance. She’s delighted with the results!

So, I say … feather your nest with a bird here and there. It’s a constant reminder throughout the year that spring will return!
